Yes, absolutely
you will have to take it to a dealer to get the new one reflashed to your mileage. should cost a few hundred or less to get it done.
The mileage is stored in the BCM not the cluster, so you can replace the cluster without changing the odometer reading.
Not if it shows 5500 on the odometer which makes it obvious that the car was a demo model or previously owned. If the odometer was reset to zero, than not only was that a breach of contract, it was an illegal act.
Sorry, it can't be done. You have to change the whole unit because the odometer is tamperproof. Check with your Nissan dealer to see what your options are.
Depends on the state where the car is being sold. It is against the law to sell a vehicle in most states without notifying the buyer in writing that the odometer does not work and the mileage is unverifiable. It is also illegal in some states to even sell a vehicle with an inoperable odometer.
It seems like that would be illegal, you wouldn't be allowed to change the agreement, so I don't think the dealer could. If it's not illegal, its very unethical. Check your dealership at the Better Business Bureau, you can also file a complaint there.
There has been either a TSB or recall on this. Happened to my 04. I had extended warranty and fixed for nothing. Call your dealer. My speedo was very erratic, usually reading 30-80 MPH higher than actual or reading 0.
Change the oil... at the dealer they have a device to turn this light off.
First, how do you know it has been changed? Do you have proof? If so, go to the dealer you bought if from and ask for an explanation. Be polite. Yelling and making threats will not help you. If they are unwilling to listen to your complaint you will have to take them to court for a refund. You will need proof that they modified the odometer reading.
