The window air conditioner does not have to be on the window. It just has to be in proximity to the window. The vent pipes and fans work best if there is an opening on the wall.
Remove the air conditioner from the wall or from the window place it on the ground remove the covers get the hose out and hose the back of the air conditioner off, if it is a older unit it could be heavy depending on the size.
Yes.... The reason being is that when the air conditioner is running it causes moisture to be removed and deposited in the back of the machine from which it is dripped out . What you do not want to do is power wash the back
To effectively vent a portable air conditioner, you should use a window kit provided with the unit to vent hot air outside. Make sure the venting hose is securely connected to the unit and the window kit to prevent hot air from leaking back into the room. Position the unit close to a window for efficient venting and avoid any obstructions that may block the airflow.

Air conditioners are designed to be relatively easy to install. Start the process from inside. Lift the lower window sash and set the air conditioner on the window sill with the back to the outside. Lower the top sash so it sits behind the front face the extends upward. Unfold the accordion sides to close any gaps, and screw through the screw holes to secure.
