How do you replace 2003 Dodge Caravan ball joint?

The lower ball joint presses out. You need a ball joint press you can rent one at autozone. Also, the lower control arm needs to be inspected real good, sometimes if the lower control arm bushings are worn bad enough its cheaper to replace the whole thing ,rather then try to repair the one you got. I have seen some that the lower ball joint would be loose in once the new ball joint was pressed in. Not a easy job,so take notes before to start on this one. It may be cheaper to buy the whole new lower control arm for it

I have a 92 Chevy Caprice the car makes a thud when turning left if the brake is pressed or has just been released What would cause this?

AnswerI believe what you have is a compromised lower ball joint. They go really fast on these cars and they are something you do not want bad. When I took my 92 Caprice in for inspection last fall, it failed because one of the lower ball joints was bad. Nothing worse for a car guy than driving around with a big ole REJECTION sticker on the car so I headed directly for AutoZone. I bought the ball joint for around $29 and they lent me the tool. For this job you must have the special tool. Not having done lower ball joints in awhile, it took me a solid hour to figure out the proper configuration of the tool the press the old ball joint out. After thet, it went like clockwork. The lower ball joint connects your front spindle assembly (where your brakes are and the wheel mounts) to the lower control arm (the connection between the fram and the wheel). If yours clunks when you put on the brakes, you could be in danger.I am not trying to scare you but mine was really bad and I never felt any vibration even at higher speeds. Scared me when I saw how bad it was.HOW TO TEST A LOWER BALL JOINT. Raise the front of the car and support under the control arm. Lower the car placing the load on the support jack. Pull up and down on the tire. If it is bad you will see movement. Another way to check is by observation of the joint itself. There is a grease fitting on the ball joint. If the mount of the grease nipple is pertruding, the joint is probably okay, if it is indented, it is bad.I would guess a garage would chrage in the neighborhood of $200 to replace one but that is a wild guess. I hope you check it out, maybe it is just a loose wheel?vbd
