If it is an older 350 the idle may simply be set too low. The next most common problem is low fuel pressure caused by a dirty fuel filter or weak fuel pump.
sure , but it will take alot of work and it will cut down on time and headaches if it is a carberated 350
1994 gmc sierra has a rough start and once it's started runs well untile you come to a stop then it cut off. the entire fuel line is fairly new it has new radiater and it does not have a catlayc converter, it has a custom straigh pipe. it has a throttel body and it's fuel injected 2 dr 350 manuall
The function of a stop switch is to cut the ignition so the engine can stop. If the switch is in the off position and the engine isn't running, then to start the bike you'll have to put it to the on position.
A 350 engine will idle good but cut out and run rough while driving if there is a vacuum leak. This causes too much air to enter the engine under load.
does the ac just stop or does the defrost also come on out of the blue?
no.
fuel pump or vaccum leak ????
A 350 will easily fit but you could install a larger engine with major modifications. Stick with a 350 which was the optional engine in Firebirds. You will have to change the ECU also, so a donor car would be the easiest. If I were in your shoes, I would sell this Firebird and purchase one with a 350 already installed. You would be money ahead in the long run.
If a 1997 Nissan Altima cuts off at a stop light, there is a problem with the fuel getting to the engine. When you are accelerating, there is pressure and a higher flow of fuel, which is why it won't cut off then. The problem could be a leak in the fuel line, the fuel pump itself, or a fuel filter. It will need to be serviced.

If you cut the engine, you will lose power steering.
if it runs fine until you push the gas pedal the accelerator pump may be bad if it has a carb on it.
