I'm guessing it's an older car (as in at least 5 or more years, or a lot of miles). over time, the brackets that hold the motor to the chassis begin to wear, and the engine vibration becomes more apparent inside the car. this is made worse when you put more of a load on the engine by requiring it to power the headlights or engage the transmission.
Check for vacuum leak at brake booster
If you are saying it vibrates while applying the brakes just before you come to a stop, then the brake rotors are warped. You will need to have them turned and trued, and replace the front brake pads. If you are saying it vibrates while you are sitting still, then look for a vacuum leak.If you are saying it vibrates while applying the brakes just before you come to a stop, then the brake rotors are warped. year, make, model, engine size, a/c on or off? drl's? headlights on?, heater on? outdoor temp? ... too many variables so ill say sitting at stoplights is a 100% waste of gas. :)
