The exhaust system is probably rotted beyond repair, replacement is best. Doing exhaust work in your driveway isn't fun. Take the vehicle to your local garage and have them evaluate the exhaust system.
take it to a muffler shop
Probably a rotted exhaust pipe has broken off. Take the car to a muffler shop for repair.
Doing it yourself? Just the muffler? $50+/- Take it to a muffler shop where they'll replace the exhaust pipe, the tail pipe and the muffler with a "lifetime replacement", and it could get expensive.
To muffle the sounds of the engine /exhaust coming out take it off and see how it sounds!
You get a ticket for noise violation
No it is not a bad thing. The muffler was invented to muffle the sound. The muffler does not enhance anything. However, the muffler stops the engine being noisy and it is a LEGAL requirement to have one, if you take it off, the police will stop and fine you and your car may be crushed.
This is going to depend on what degree of quality you demand in a muffler, and how much of the system needs to be replaced. If you need new pipe from the header on back, and you need to replace hangers, it's going to be real expensive. I'd take the car in to a muffler shop for an estimate and go from there. FriPilot
Unscrew the screw at the bottom of the muffler. Then take a hammer and a flat head screw driver and hit the muffler head until it comes out. Otherwise call a mechanic.
Take off your exhaust pipe and muffler. It is against the law to drive a vehicle on public roads without a proper exhaust system. or you could take of the big round exaust filter and replace it with a peice of pipe or a hot dog exaust to make it a deeper sound.
Get a tune up....the popping noise is caused by excess fuel being burned in the exhaust system, you cant hear it until you take your foot off the gas and the back pressure is reduced...
It will make the exhaust come out those holes instead of the the tail pipe. Just take your vehicle to a muffler shop and have them remove your muffler and put pipe in it's place. No restriction means more flow which means higher performance, unless your talking about a 2-stroke then don't f with it.
