The Clean Air Act of 1990 requires recapture recycling and safe disposal of chlorofluorocarbons CFCs and hydrochlorofluorocarbons HCFCs used in air conditioners refrigerators and freezers as coolant Under the Act no one may accept an item containing CFCs and HCFCs for recycling or disposal unless the Freon contained within it isproperly removed and the owner, hauler, or appliance company can show proof of proper removal.
