As far as house applications you want your thermistat set to no lower that 66F. Not just because of the bill, but also it will shorten the life of the compressor and those are monsterously expensive. To give you an idea of how it affects it, The normal life span of a compressor cand be up to thirty years. When you continously crank the thermistat year after year to 66F or below the life span can go as low as ten years!
