To what torque should the rod and main bearings of a 1977 366 GMC truck engine be tightened? The rods have 3/8" bolts and it has 4 bolt mains with 1/2" bolts.
There are 16 bolts. If your looking at it from the top to bottom, left to right the bolts/sequence would be... the upper row of bolts, under the valve cover would be # 16, 12, 9, 1, 3, 6, 13 the second row above the spark plugs - #15, 8, 2, 7, 14 the last row just below the spark plugs - #11, 5, 4, 10 Best would be to draw a pic and number the bolts as per above. You should torque to cylinder head recommendations depending on (alum/cast iron), but all torque in 3 steps.( example 35,45,65 final). Chevy OEM final torque specs. (using motor oil to lube threads/washers). 65 ft-lbs for the short bolts 75 ft-lbs for the med/long bolts
