DISTANCES FROM WHITEHORSE, YUKON to VANCOUVER, B.C. ROUTE 1. 2414 km (1500 mi.) via Stewart-Cassiar Hwy. in Northern B.C. & via Fraser Canyon Hwy in southern B.C. Description: longer stretches of winding and gravel sections than Alaska Hwy. Note 1: When travelling in the winter may have to travel 20km east, into Watson Lake, Yukon in order to purchase gas and then 20km back to "the Junction" to head due south on the Stewart-Cassiar Hwy 37. Note 2: The Petro-can in Watson Lake has been know to have extended hours even in winter but that can change! Note 3: Once you reach the south end of Hwy 37, there is a 24 hour Chevron Town Pantry with full amenities in New Hazelton including a White Spot & Pay-at-the-Pump! Again phone ahead. They've been providing 24 hour service for years BUT things can change in the north. ROUTE 2. 2620 km (1640 mi.) via Alaska Hwy in the North & Fraser Canyon Hwy in southern B.C. Description: Most of the Alaska Hwy is paved. There are about three extreme down hill stretches going south. Note 1: The first Pay-at-the-Pump & 24 hour service stations are at Ft. St. John and Chetwynd, B.C. which are respectively 1 hour north and 1 hour south of Dawson Creek, B.C. ROUTE 3. 2700 km (1678 mi.) via Alaska Hwy and Coquihalla Hwy Description: By- passing over to Kamloops and heading south on the Coquihalla Hwy is longer in distance but shorter in time if you like travelling 120 km per hour! Note 1: There is a $20 toll. Truckers can sail by the slower driver without mishap. *Actually, there is no longer a toll on the Coquihalla * NOTE: It is advisable to carry an extra "tank-load" of gas to allow continuous travel thorough the night in the North.
