Spark plugs were changed at about 10,000 mile intervals. The arrival of plugs made with special metals such as platignum tips, or irridium, has extended the interval to as much as 60,000 miles. You need to check which type of plugs are fitted to any car, as standard plugs could have been used instead of the longer life ones. The handbook will usually recommend which type to use.
With the new fuel injected engine and improved ignition systems you should be able to go 100,000 before tune-up
Replacing Spark Plug High Voltage WiresNO, not necessarily. Spark plug wires only need to be replaced maybe once or twice in the life of a vehicle, IF THEY HAVE NOT BEEN PHYSICALLY DAMAGED OR ABUSED.Therefore, it is normally not necessary to replace the plug wires when replacing the plugs.
grab yourself a wrench, spark plug socket. Pull the wires off BY THE BOOTS, so you don't pull the wires out. take the wrench, attach the socket, and then loosen the spark plugs until they come out. Do these spark plugs 1 by 1, if you mix the wires up you will ruin your engine. the 4th spark plug is a bit hard to reach due to the alternator being in the way, but it is possible. Also, I forgot that you should probably have an extension, made my life a bit easier.
