There is no real drop-in for R-22; not to mention you have replace the the oil as well, this requires a purge of the lines with an acid, the new replacements refrigerants have a higher pressure as well.

Look on the outdoor compressor, there should be a sticker that tells you what kind of refrigerant it uses. If it says r22, it is the old type.
