I f your working with an OBII vehicle (1996 or newer), your codes will always have a letter and some numbers. There is a meaning behind them. the most common letter "P" stands for POWERTRAIN which covers a vast amount of the vehicle and its various system ( mechanical, electrical, emmisions related), some other letters, but not as common are "B" for BODY CONTROL MODULE, or in some rare cases "T" for TRANSMISSION, ( trans problems are usually covered under "P" though). Any auto parts store can read your codes for, but beware, DONT LET THEM TRY TO DIAGNOSE IT, they're in the business of selling parts, not fixing cars.
