Are you looking for the pad that has the engine serial number and suffix code on it? That one is in front of the passenger side cylinder head. The timing pad is just above the harmonic balancer, usually on the driver's side.
On the passenger side.
Timing connector is located rightside passenger floor where the carpet meets the firewall inside
Looking at the engine from the front, the cylinders on your driver side are 1,3,5, front to back. passenger side goes 2,4,6, front to back

In the compartment between the driver and passenger seats is a switch
two, one on passenger side & one on driver side.

no on a 350 it is on the driver side and on a 305 it is on the passenger side

Should be a little pad on the front of the motor - passenger side - by the timing chain cover or by the passenger head. Search for "big block Chevy casting codes".... should be able to find out all about it from there.
