The engine accessory gearbox is typically located on the front or the rear of the aircraft engine, depending on the engine design. You have to remove the engine and gearbox. you will need a engine crane. Once you have the engine and box out, remove gearbox from engine and replace clutch, Refit gearbox to engine, put engine and gearbox back in car. Easy job if you have access to a engine crane.

Starter is located to the rear of the engine,under the exhaust manifold.Three bolts attatch it the the gearbox,access to these is from above, in the engine bay.
The number is on the block and isjust above where the gearbox connects to the block

on my 1986 golf 2,(think its the same engine), its located on top of the gearbox.
It is connected to the rear of the engine, which faces longitudinally in the vehicle. So the gearbox should be somewhere between the front seats.
It's at the back of the gearbox on the left hand side.
If it has one it would be driven off of the accessory belt.
