Synthetic oils are much better. But do you need it?

This should help you choose. Synthetic oils are made from a oil such as soybean oil with an additive package. Conventional oils are from the ground with an additive package. Synthetic oils are much more expensive then conventional oil. Synthetic oils were designed for high performance cars. Some advantages of synthetetic oil is that it flows better when cold, reduces wear, prevents sludge buildup, burns slower, makes engines run cooler, makes engines produce more power, inproved fuel econemy, makes engines last longer and thins out less when hot. But they are so much more expensive then conventional oils that it may not be worth it. If you are racing, live someware cold, your car recomends it or you drive in extreme conditions, such as towing, excessive idling or frequent short trips, you do not need synthetic oil. The reasons are even if you get one more mile per gallon of gas and run 7500 miles between oil changes, it still is much cheaper to use conventional oil. You will still get 200000-300000 miles out of a good engine using the cheapest oil that you can find. Hope this helps!

What kind of oil do you use for 4 stroke 50cc scooter?

From what I have been able to research most manufacturers recommend using 10W-40. You should change oil every 500 to 800 miles. And it is better to use a synthetic oil versus a mineral oil, eg; Mobil 1 synthetic, as synthetic oil does not create the sludge that is prominent with standard petroleum based mineral oil. Hope this information is helpful.

Can you mix synthetic and mineral oil?

Basically no Adding mineral to synthetic oils destroys the characteristics of the oil. Adding synthetic to mineral is waste of the more expensive synthetic oil with the same results as above. If you have to mix in emergency, get a complete oil change ASAP. You can use either mineral or synthetic oil for the same application but not mixed. Synthetic oils in cars is now used as it gives longer service intervals- typically 12 months or 12,000 - 20,000 miles. Mineral oils break down quicker and require changing more frequently 6 months or 6,000 - 10,000 miles

Is 85W-90 gear oil synthetic?

Generally speaking a 85w/90 gear oil would be mineral. A synthetic oil has better operating characteristics at either end of a temperature range and so they normally have a wider viscosity difference. i.e. with gear oils a 75w/90 or 80w/140 could well be synthetic
