Why does the 1997 Plymouth Neon use a dual filament 3157 bulb for the reverse light - does this lamp have a function other than lighting up while in reverse?
the purpose for the use of this bulb is simple: the 3157 bulb is the same part used in the front turn signal/park lamp and in the rear tail/stop/turn lamp. this saves on building costs and repair costs as well. Also, the only function of the backup light is for reverse gear. the backup light uses the same filament as the signal does. if you have a park/tail lamp go out and signal/stop light still works, use the bulb for a spare. hope this helps.
