There is a delay on the fan to allow the furnace to get hot so as not to blow cold air into the home at start up. There is also an `OFF` delay, where the fan runs for a minute or so after the flame shuts off. This is to cool down the furnace.
Yes, you can melt the heat exchanger and start a fire that way
The blower should be operated a few minutes before you start the motor to vent gas fumes from engine compartment.

You should operate the blower for at least 4 minutes, and then you can feel free to start the engine.
Run it a few minutes before you start the engine - It takes the gas fumes out of the engine compartment so that if you have a spark it doesn't ignite.

Check the fuse and relay to start. If these are ok, then check the blower switch, the resister, then the blower motor itself.

If you have a 2003 Trailblazer which takes 5 minutes before it starts, there could be a problem with the remote start or the ignition switch.
It is recommended that you use a blower at least 4 minutes before you ever start the engine, and especially after fueling. How long should the blower run after fueling? After fueling, be sure to run your blower for at least four to five minutes and make sure you cannot smell gas before starting your eninge
This is how a furnace heats your home. When the thermostat calls for heat, a signal is sent to the gas valve. If you have an older unit, the gas valve checks to see that the thermocouple sees the pilot and if it does, the gas valve opens to send gas to the burners. If you have a newer furnace, the thermostat sends a signal to start the pilit ignition sequence (either spark or hot plate) and then the flame rod sees the pilot (of the hot plate is up to temp.) the gas valve opens to send gas to the burner. The fan control will then send a signal to the blower to start up. As the temp rises in the room, the thermostat sends a signal back to the gas valve to close as it reaches the set point on the thermostat and the blower continues to run until the set point on the fan control is reached and it shuts off ending the cycle.
