I have a 2006 towncar that sometimes experiences this problem. Ford service department told me this can happen if you fill the gas while the key is in the 'accessory' position (engine off, but power for stereo, etc). some kind of computer or electronic bug, i guess. try taking keys out of ignition before filling and see if that helps.
