What kind of noise? It could just be the park lock solenoid clicking when it releases to engage drive, this wouldn't come from the gearbox though, it would be from the gear selector unit under the centre console.

How does a stern drive work?

It is a fairly basic transmision. A locking mechanism (clutch dog) is moved by a cable amd a lever to change from forward gear to reverse, with a neutral inbetween. It is linked to the throttle cable so you can't jam it in reverse while the engine is at full rpms.

What simple machine is a dumbell?

A dumbbell is considered a type of lever, specifically a class 1 lever. In this case, the fulcrum is the point where the dumbbell is held, the effort is the force applied by the person lifting the dumbbell, and the load is the weight of the dumbbell itself. By applying force at one end of the lever (lifting the dumbbell), the load (weight) at the other end can be moved, making it easier to perform exercises and build strength.

Where can the fulcrum be moved to result in a mechanical advantage of 5 for the lever?

Up your bum.

What is the lever in a tap?

Does a third-class lever increase the distance a load an be moved?

Yes, a third-class lever does not increase the distance that a load can be moved. In a third-class lever, the effort is in between the load and the fulcrum, resulting in a greater mechanical advantage but less distance traveled by the load compared to the effort.

How do you assemble a lever?

The lever itself is any rigid item, it should be long, rigid and strong. To work it needs a Fulcrum. A rock or similar thing will do. You take your Lever, place it under the object to be moved, place the lever over the Fulcrum, then push the lever to move your object.
