The brake rotors only need to be changed if they are worn beyond allowable specifications and should be changed in pairs.

They do not need to be changed with the pads unless they are damaged as above or warped.

Why would brakes still squeak after changing pads 2004 jeep liberty?

If you brakes are still squeaking after you change your brake pads in any car, you have a warped rotor. The squeaking is caused by the rotor vibrating when pressure is applied by the pads. The best way to permanently fix the problem is to replace your pads and your rotors at the same time. This can also cause accelerated wear on the new pads if you do not replace the rotors at the same time, or at least have them turned.

Should you change brake pads when changing rotors?

Its a good idea to change the pads because the old ones may have worn unevenly. That may cause future damage to the braking system. If you just need to get by then its ok to used the old pads but most of the time the rotors cost more then the brake pads. I WOULD CHANGE THE PADS.

Citreon c3 do you need to change brake pads at the same time as you replace discs?

I would always suggest replacing brake pads and rotors in pairs. However, if the pads still have a lot of life in them, at the very least take some sand paper and scuff the surface of the pads up. Over time, heat and other contaminates can cause pads and rotors to "glaze", or obtain a shiny appearance. If you don't remove the glaze off the pads, it will just transfer over to your new rotors, and may degrade braking performance.

When you step on the brakes and come to a stop it jerks forward?

May be its time to change your brake pads and rotors.

Why do your rotors have small grooves after installing new rotors and brakes?

Your rotors had the grooves before, from the old pads. You should have had them turned. Next time check rotors at time of fitting new pads. If you can see or feel grooves then they should be repaired.

How do you change pads and rotors in a 2000 Ford Ranger?

Let a professional do this for you. The time and trouble may cost more in the end, if you do it yourself.

How much to replace vw jetta breaks?

It'll run you around $500-$800. The brake rotors have to be replaced at the same time as the pads because the original rotors were extremely thin.

How long should pads and rotors last?

Pads are meant to wear down. Typically, these pads come with a squealer clip. This clip rubs on the rotor when the pads are past their usable thickness. When you hear this squeal, it's time to change the pads. When you change the pads, check the thickness of the rotors with a caliper or a micrometer. If they are within specifications, thickness-wise, have them turned if necessary. If they are still in spec after turning, you can use them. Otherwise, you need to buy replacements. All in all, pads last between 30 and 60k miles, depending on how much braking you do. Rotors are all built differently, but should at least last as long as the pads if not longer.

You replaced the two front rotors on your 97 toy 4 runner two wheel drive because they were warped should the pads also be replaced there only10 months old?

YES, the pads should have been replaced at the same time you replaced the rotors.

Why car shakes while driving and braking?

Rotors are warped. Have them trued or replaced as necessary. Also replace the brake pads at the same time.

What causes brake rotors to get groves?

In general, normal wear can cause the rotors to become groved. The pads wear "into" the rotor during regular use. At some point, the rotors may need to be turned or replaced, and the pads may need to be replaced. Both the turning/replacing of the rotors and the replacment of the brake pads is done at the same time. Few if any professionals will attempt to "short cut" a brake job by just doing one thing.

Pulsating feeling when braking 2007 Chrysler 300?

Warped brake rotors, have them resurfaced if thick enough and have the pads replaced at the same time. If the rotors are not thick enough they will have to be replaced too. Could be the ABS also.
