no, a bad freeze plug will leak antifreeze. i would guess the hissing noise *might* be a exhaust manifold gasket leak or a exhaust pipe that is loose or leaking. the easiest way to locate a leak like this (hissing) is by using a length of rubber hose 3-4 feet long and *carefully* while the engine is running holding one end to your ear move the other end around the engine or suspected areas until you hear the hissing noise thru the hose clearly. then you've located the leak. do not use a metal brake line to do this...you might hit a moving part and get skewered or touch a sparkplug wire and become aware of what a bug feels when it hits a zapper :) good luck.
