You need to call the dealership and see if it is covered under the manufacture's extended warranty. They will repair it free of charge if so. Otherwise you will need to get a remanufactured instrument cluster.
More than likely the problem is the sending unit in the fuel tank.
You will have to replace the fuel sending unit inside of the fuel tank.

To repair a Ski-Doo fuel gauge, start by checking the connections and wiring for any signs of damage or corrosion. If the wiring is intact, remove the fuel gauge from the dashboard and test it with a multimeter to determine if it's functioning properly. If the gauge is faulty, replace it with a compatible unit. Finally, ensure the fuel sender unit in the tank is working correctly, as it can also affect gauge readings.
To repair the fuel gauge on a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire, start by checking the fuse related to the fuel gauge in the fuse box. If the fuse is intact, inspect the wiring and connections at the fuel tank sending unit for any damage or corrosion. You may need to replace the sending unit if it's faulty, which involves accessing the fuel tank. Finally, test the gauge itself by connecting it to a power source to ensure it functions correctly; if it doesn’t, you may need to replace the gauge.
I'm NOT 100% sure on this answer but do this and we will find out. If you are having a fuel gauge problem then CALL a Chevy parts house and ask them if they sell a FUEL LEVELING SENSOR by itself. If they do then buy it and install it on the fuel sending unit that is inside of the fuel tank and that will fix your gauge for awhile. Overtime the sulfur in the gas COATS the fuel leveling sensor and the gauge goes crazy. You may have to buy the WHOLE fuel pump sending unit just to fix your gauge. That will be A costly repair. Like I said, Don't know if they sell it by itself or not.
To repair a nonworking fuel gauge in a 1966 Plymouth Valiant, first check the gauge itself and the wiring for any visible damage or corrosion. Next, inspect the fuel sending unit in the fuel tank for proper functionality, ensuring it is not stuck or faulty. If needed, replace the sending unit and ensure all connections are secure. Finally, test the gauge by turning on the ignition to see if it registers correctly.
