Try Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Not just for hair... I don't know if this works on leather or not, but I've used hairspray to remove permanent black marker from a crushed velvet sofa. (I wonder if it's the alcohol in it?)

Well, i guess cow leather is a bit different as in maybe colour or pattern. Im not sure about the feeling when u tocuh it but i do suppose patters and different textures like maybe alligators have a dark greeny kind of texture. And the cow leather could have dark borwn, black or grey....
Well studies say about 200 years and they also say that by painting the marks with a permanent marker it can at least vanish the marks for long periods of time but the marker has to be similar to the persons skin color. For example if I am an African American I would use a black sharpie marker.
