Your hands should slide around the wheel and never allow your hands or arms to cross.

The problem could be the lock for the steering wheel. Move the steering either side while trying to turn the key.
You can cover your steering wheel to protect it against sun damage if you live in a hot area. Covering your steering wheel must be done so that the cover is secure. Many accidents are caused when a cheap steering wheel cover slides around the steering wheel when you try to turn the wheel quickly and all you move is the cover and not the steering wheel. try turning your steering wheel hard either way WHILE turning the key, sometimes the steering wheel locking mechanism interferes. you wont be able to turn your steering wheel like your actually turning, just move it and it should let the key turn
