It would depend on the year, make and model of the vehicle.

It is inside the fuel tank, an experienced mechanic can replace it in about 2 hours.
take the fuel tank out of the vehicle. the pump is inside of the tank.
Drop the fuel tank. Take out fuel pump. Then replace. Be sure to detach your fuel lines (2) then detach the hose were you fuel up your truck at.
I would give yourself about 4 hours do do this job, mainly because the fuel tank needs to be dropped to access the fuel pump on top.
you get under the car and have to take off the fuel tank after you take it off there is gonna be a circle and you have to take it screw it off and out comes the fuel pump.
The fuel pump is in the gas tank, you have to take the tank down to replace it.
The shop has to take out the fuel tank and replace the pump,ask them how much the pump cost, and how many hours they will charge,it is not a long job,get an estimate.
In the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank & take fuel pump out from the top. This is NOT a job for an amateur.

Fuel pumps are in the tank. Whether or not you can do it yourself depends on how much skill and equipment you have. The tank has to be removed to get at the fuel pump.
