What are the symptoms of a bad front wheel bearing on a 1998 Honda Accord?

If you suspect a bearing is going bad, remove the bearing an have a look.Answer:The front wheel bearing is a sealed unit on this vehicle, and in most cases will last the life of the car. A more common cause of noise from the front end would be the CV joint starting to fail. Look at both CV boots to determine if the boots are bad, which means the joint will soon go bad.Drive on to a wide-open parking lot and listen carefully to the sound it makes. If it's a clicking sound, suspect a CV joint. Does it get louder while the vehicle is turning right or left? A hub bearing is usually more of a howling sound, not a clicking sound, and as it gets really bad will turn into a growl or grinding sound. Back on the street, cruise along along at 35 mph or so, and notice if the sound seems to change as the vehicle makes a gentle right or left curve. Normally a CV joint isn't noisy at cruising speed, even if it's failing. If the howling or grinding sound gets louder as the vehicle is turned left, suspect the right bearing, as more of the vehicle's weight is transferred to that side as the car leans a little bit.Changing this hub bearing is somewhat involved for the driveway mechanic. It can be done, but a special tool is required to separate the lower ball joint and tie rod, and sometimes the knuckle has to be heated with a torch to drive the bearing housing out.Your local shop will probably recommend having both front bearings changed at the same time.

We have a bad wheel bearing but need to know how to figure out what side the bearing is bad?

should be able to listen to it and hear which side. front or back? front ones make noise like driving over a rumble strip on hwy. they will get worse and worse. they will only destroy themselves due to its a sealed bearing. they can last several thousand miles and make noise. fix asap.

While driving your passenger front tire starts making noise had tie rod replaced last year?

The noise from the front tire could be caused by various issues, such as a worn wheel bearing, suspension component, or tire. It's recommended to have a mechanic inspect the tire and associated components to determine the exact cause of the noise. This will help in addressing the issue promptly and ensuring safe driving.

87 Trooper II front hub question During cold or cool weather I have a bad grinding noise in my front hubs 4X4 on my 1987 Trooper II. It does not do this during the summer..?

Your problem is in the lack of grease in the winter .The grease becomes clumpy and is easily pushed of of the bearing race when its cold. when its hot out the grease liquifies and lubricates better. Also after riding on the bearing with it grinding causes alot of heat build up and puts ripples on the race itself. this makes the bearing (rollers) ride on a sort of a wash board and it will make a grinding noise. Dissasemble the wheel and inspect the race by rubbing you fingernail over it to see if it is smooth. Also check the color if its anything but silver replace the bearing assembly. Also make sure the race is not (spun) in the hub it should be tight. if it is loose your hub and bearing needs to be replaced. Re-grease the old or new bearing with a bearing grease packer ($10.00 at the local autoparts store) and re-install it. also make sure you re-pack the locking hub with fresh grease before re-assembly. I almost forgot...clean any old grease before you put in the new grease. A bucket of carburator-parts cleaner works the best (but might strip the paint if left in the bucket) I repainted mine black just to make it look better since I had them apart anyway. You might want to check the fluid level in the front axle while your up there! and check your axle boots. Good luck!!! I own a 1988 trooper and have ironed out almost every problem imaginable in the last ten years. My truck WAS truly a lemon. But its great now! ISUZU ROCKS!!!Its posted on my cardomain.com page as rollintroopers check it out and let me know in my guest book if I can help you out with anything else. too-taloo

Why is your wheel squeaking when you drive but stops when there is no weight on it like if you are in a turn and the weight is shifted to the opposite side of the car?

I had this happen. It was the wheel bearing. It starts off as a faint whine, but over time as the bearing gets worse it becomes a squeal at highway speeds and a squeak at low speeds. If squeaking at low speeds the bearing is on its last legs and total failure is imminent probably causing more expensive damage and repair.
