You should look at the sticker on the botton of your hood. It Should tell you TIMING "BTDC" which is the recommended timing for your application. Such as my 1996 Geo Metro says 5 Degrees "BTDC" (Before Top Dead Center)(cylinder 1) I would not go much more the recommended. Replacing a head is an exspensive mistake. Good luckat the bottom of the timing-belt cover align the mark on the crank pulley @ 10 degrees,then on your cam you should see two marks,one has a small dimple below it.use the mark w/o the dimple and line it up with the small notch located on the valve-cover.be sure the belt is good and tight or she'll jump out time. that's how i set the time on my 95' and now she runs like top. hope that helped...
