DONT TAKE IT OFF!...if you can let it cool down for a while first then using a thick cloth etc just loosen it enough to enable the steam to escape and when the steam has gone you can then remove it and refill with water/coolant.

Radiator cap could be lose or wrong size
It should be printed on the radiator cap. Most are around 16 psi.It should be printed on the radiator cap. Most are around 16 psi.
generally most radiator caps should hold 15psi, if they drop the cap is no good.
According to the Haynes repair manual for Chevy/GMC trucks 1988 thru 2000 the cap should be a 15 psi radiator cap.
There is no cap for the radiator. To add anti-freeze to your radiator you have to fill it from the overflow. To find that trace a small rubber hose from the top of the radiator to what should be a plastic container
If you have a threaded cap on your coolant reservoir that is your " radiator cap "
No , the " radiator " cap / pressure cap is the thread on cap on the engine coolant reservoir
It the vehicles of today, the coolant appears in a separate tank against the firewall. You should not be able to see fluid when you open the radiator cap.
The radiator cap is on top of the radiator.
You should replace the radiator cap if it is leaking coolant, not sealing properly, or showing signs of damage. A faulty radiator cap can lead to issues like overheating, coolant loss, or air entering the cooling system, which can cause damage to your engine. Regularly inspecting and replacing the radiator cap can help prevent these problems and maintain the efficiency of your cooling system.
A hot radiator releases excess coolant through the spring-loaded cap in to the reservoir, and when cooled the partial vacuum created by cooled radiator pulls it back in. A reservoir should be only about 1/4 full cold on a system that uses a radiator cap, some cars have a pressurized cap on reservoir and no cap on radiator
