I have a 1997 grand am and i have power to the starter but when i turn the key over it wont in gauge the starter. all fuses are good.
You may have a defective ignition switch.
its either the starter or your ignition
The starter relay, solenoid or starter itself most likely is bad. If you hear clicking from the starter when you turn the key, then the starter is most likely the cause.
starter
This could be a bad ignition switch, ignition relay, or ignition fuse.
It seems that there could be a problem with your starter. It happened to me too.
It could be a bad starter or a bad solenoid.... If you turn the key, but motor will not turn, listen for clicking... if it clicks, possibly bad starter. best option would be to beg steal or borrow a voltmeter and measure voltage at starter motor when key is turned......
There is normally a second starter-position solenoid under the clutch pedal. It probably is not getting contacted when you step on the pedal.
Dead or weak battery? Bad starter solenoid? Loose or corroded battery cable? Bad starter? bad neutral safety switch?
Probably the starter, have someone turn the key to the crank position while you gently tap the starter with a hammer or bar. If it starts change the starter. If not try shorting the starter solenoid to see if that works.
Could possibly a solenoid on the starter going bad. Could possibly a solenoid on the starter going bad. Could possibly a solenoid on the starter going bad.
This could be the starter, or the ignition switch.
