Your long crank time could be due to a pinhole leak in the fuel pump unit. Mine had this problem, and putting in a new fuel pump did not fix it. It's also not exceptionally dangerous, as long as the leak is inside the sending unit (which is housed in the gas tank itself). You will need to replace the fuel pump hangar and sending unit as a whole. If you have the ability to check the fuel pressure, see if the pressure starts to decline immediately after you turn the engine off. If you notice a rather abrupt decline in the fuel pressure, it's a good bet that you'll need a new fuel pump/hangar unit.
