Clean the mass air inflow sensor. You may also have some engine sensors that are borderline working and won't cause a check engine code but are feeding the engine control computer the skewed readings. If you have a check engine light on- go repair that problem. LOL

There is no power steering in a Mercury Villager at start up in cold weather due to a failing pump or low fluid. Fluid becomes much thicker in cold weather and is much harder to pump.

My guess would be a weak ignition coil. Same thing happened to my delta. Wouldn't start in cold weather. Changed the ignition coil (60bucks) and it's been starting good ever since.

Your model should have a motor plug. If you plug it in to the wall outlet in cold weather overnight, you should have no problem to get it to start.
