It sounds as though your ignition switch is a little loose in it's socket and turns with the keywhen starting. Check the screw base of the ignition key holder and be sure it is screwed tightly down.
A person will have no power to the ignition when the key is turned over when the battery is dead or the ignition switch is defective. Each component must be tested to rule them out as a problem.
Sometimes the Steering wheel lock will rest on the locking mechanism and not let you turn the ignition switch. Try turning the wheel one way or the other to relieve the pressure while tuning the ignition switch.
