It hurts getting a tattoo period. I have one at the top of my back, and the most painful thing for me was my muscles tensing closer to the sides of the back. Other then that, no it's really not bad. Definitely worth it

∙ 14y agoPain is subjective to the individual, my threshold may not match your level. Mine didn't hurt per se, felt no worse than a sunburn, but I consider myself to have a high pain threshold. The most painful tattoo I've gotten so far was down my breast bone, between my breasts, that one made me cry.

The hip should hurt less because there's more fat and muscle there than the lower back. Honestly though, the pain shouldn't be a factor in where you place it. I have a tattoo on the top of my back going down my spine and while it killed when I was getting it done, I wouldn't want it anywhere else=)

The bigger they are, the worse they hurt. The shoulder is slightly less sensitive than the abdomen. And it hurts even worse when you change your mind. UPDATED ANSWER If you're having the tattoo on your bottom, it will hurt a lot when you sit down.

The tattoo removal will be a little more painful than the tattoo itself. Some people have higher pain tolerances to begin with so what might 'hurt' some people will not hurt as bad to others.

Not bad at all, mostly just vibration & a burning sensation after a while. It does bleed quite a bit though.
