KEEP IT OUT OF THE SUN!!! Put tons of lotion on it to keep it moisturized take Luke warm showers and i would recommend wearing short sleeves so your skin can breath

<edit> DO NOT put lotion on a new tat....the ingredients in most lotions can destroy new ink! Follow the directions your artist gave you, and use common sense. No swimming, hot showers, lotion, tight clothing, perfumes, body oils, etc.

1. An hour after getting the tattoo, gently wash it with unscented soap. Rinse and dry.

2. Apply Aquaphor Advanced Therapy cream lightly to the tattoo.

3. Keep applying ointment 3-5 times per day.

DO NOT: Use vaseline, petroleum jelly, A&D ointment, peroxide, alcohol, etc.

*If you have doubts, they should have products at the tattoo shop.

DO NOT: Submerge your tattoo under water for the first 2 weeks.

*Showers are fine, baths are not.

DO NOT: Expose tattoo to direct sunlight for 2 weeks.

First, you must put a disinfecting and humidifying creme on it every two hours for the first two weeks you have it. DO NOT let it get dry, because that way the drawing could get smaller, as a scar does, and it will look horrible.

Second, for the first week, DO NOT let direct sunlight fall on the tattoo. I don't know why, but the tattoo swells up and hurts.

Third, DO NOT go swimming for the first two weeks! If you swim in a pool, the chlorine can get into the tattoo, and make it hurt, or even bleed, which can ruin your tattoo completely. If you swim in the sea (or elsewhere in salty water), the salt makes the ink come out from your skin, and the tattoo fades away. It won't disappear, but it will look as a shapeless stain on your skin.

Fourth: when washing your tattoo, the first two weeks DO NOT put soap/shampoo on top of it. It gets red and swells up, and it hurts like hell for days.

Try to let the tattoo on "fresh air" (without anything on top of it) for at least 5 or 6 hours a day, so it won't get infected. If you live in a hot climate, remember to wash it at least tree times a day. If the climate is cold, one or two times may be enough. Change the bandages on the tattoo at least once every 24 hours, and don't worry if the first three or four days you see the ink "escaping" from the tattoo. That is normal.

If your tattoo stays red and swollen (or if it hurts or bleeds) for more than five days, check on a doctor, or at least the person who made you the tattoo. You may be allergic to the ink, and if you are, it is VERY important that you get medical attention as soon as possible.

DO NOT SCRATCH THE TATTOO! It will get itchy the second week, because it will be healing, but you must remember to not scratch it, or you may ruin the tattoo completely. If you can´t stand the itch, take a soft towel, and pass it on top of the tattoo WITHOUT ANY STRENGTH, so you won´t lift the "new skin" that´s growing on top of the ink.

Last advices: always go with a professional, and always check for the needles to be new. The tattoo doesn´t hurt so bad, so don´t worry before doing it (actually, it only hurts when the needle passes too close to the bones). And remember that the tattoo is something you will have for the rest of your life, so take good care after it!
