Lets understand the issue of being tongue tied, tongue tied means having and over developed frenial web connecting the bottom of the tongue to the bottom of the mouth. If this web is too long and reached the tip of the tongue then tongue piercing can't be done safely. Piercing the tongue to one side of the web or the other will not resolve the issue and can only cause further oral health issues down the road.

The only way to get a tongue that is "tongue tied" pierced is to see an oral surgeon and have a frenectomy done. This is where the frenial web is cut back so the tongue appears to be the same as a normally developed tongue. This procedure is expensive and is generally not done unless the web is causing other issues for the individual like impairing speech.

Tongues are generally pierced three quarters of an inch back from the tip of the tongue. The barbell is sized by the piercer to allow for swelling and freedom of movement and will need to be shortened after two weeks post piercing to prevent dental damage and gum regression. Piercing the tongue any further ahead will cause issues with dental damage and gum regression.

Any one who has or believes they have a tied tongue should consult with there doctor and dentist before considering getting a tongue piercing. Not every piercer knows how to handle these situations so you need to know you are dealing with a truly experienced body piercer and not some novice who hasn't got the experience of training to handle this form of piercing properly.

Aftercare for the tongue piercing is the same regardless of the tongue in question, these instructions will be given to you by your professional body piercer verbally as well as in writing.

There is no length requirement for tongue piercings. No matter how long or short your tongue is, a professional piercer will be able to make it work.

2-3 months before you change it. There isn't a way to tell how long your can leave it naked before it closes up if that's what you're asking. Different for everyone.

How long can discharge continue with tongue piercing?

Typically a new tongue piercing will discharge for 6 to 8 weeks and then ease off as the fistula* is formed (*fistula is the tube of new tissue that makes up the actual piercing hole). Swelling is at it's height for about 2 weeks (14 days post piercing) then once the swelling has eased it's a very good idea to have the piercing jewellery downsized to avoid dental damage from biting the jewellery. Plastic barbells are not recommended for new piercings and actually can fail due to the swelling leading to swallowing or inhaling the plastic barbell. A tongue piercing like any piercing is never to be considered fully healed until it's a full year old, you can have a light heal but it takes a full year for the piercing to season up allowing for removal or the jewellery for extended period of time.

Hard tongue after new piercing?

ok, if its hard around the Piercing that's normal, its a callus forming, but if your whole tongue is hard, then I'm not for sure why that is, only thing i can think of is the swelling.

I got my tongue pierced and its to far back i went to 2 other piercers and they said it was fine but im unhappy with it if i take it out how long should i wait to get it repierced?

Normal placement is 3/4" from the tip of the tongue to the top ball. If your tongue is unusually long placement can vary slightly. If you remove the piercing (no sooner than 72 hours from the time the piercing was first done) you will need to wait at least 3~4 weeks from removal date to get the piercing redone. The tongue swells and distends once it's pierced so we need to be sure this swelling is gone and the old piercing had healed up so there is no bump or distension from the old piercing to interfere with the new piercing. edit: did you know people get (not uncommon either) brain abscesses from their tongue piercings? be careful, because this is definitely one of the most dangerous areas to pierce considering how close it is to your brain stem.

How soon can you place a retainer in a new tongue piercing?

Does lemon help or harm a tongue piercing?

Well I for one wouldn't be using lemon on any oral piercing let alone a tongue piercing, acetic acid or citric acid will irritate the piercing if it's new. Think about reviewing your written aftercare instructions your professional body piercer provided for you.
