Wait at least 3 weeks between stretches in the 14ga-10ga range. The8ga-2ga range can be tough so wait at least a month between those. Going higher than 2ga usually uses the taping method instead or tapers/expanders so that a continuous thing. Don't rush anything though. If you wait 3 weeks and it hurts to stretch, just wait another week or so.
Also, you don't want to wear tapers as jewelry. After you use them to stretch up, put plugs in. Tapers wear out the middle of your lobe and make them thin because of the uneven weight.
