How long does it take for a piercing to heal?

Monroe piercings take 6-8 weeks to heal. However it depends on the person and their body. Oral piercings heal faster than other piercings because your mouth has good bacteria that helps fight infections and bad bacteria. That doesn't mean infections aren't possible though. Do NOT clean your oral piercing with hydrogen peroxide or alcohol because those can actually eat away and kill skin cells that are healing the piercing and make the healing process longer. also never use creams such as Neosporin to try to speed the healing process. they block oxygen from getting to the piercing and slow healing. they can also hold bacteria in the cream and cause infections. to clean your piercing use a small amount of antibacterial soap (unscented) and a q-tip and water to swab the area only TWICE a day, no more. also to cleans the inside mix a teaspoon of sea salt in with 8 ounces of warm water and swish it around in your mouth for 30 seconds twice a day or after meals. If your piercer didn't tell you, you are always able to go back for a check up to see how its healing. if you do happen to get an infection do NOT take out the jewelry because this can cause the infection to spread more.

Each piercing has a specific healing period, some can be a few months to a few weeks for a light heal, but ultimately all piercings are considered new until they are a full year old and seasoned. When a piercing is seasoned it can have the jewellery removed to extended periods of time and still allow the jewellery to be put back into the piercing without damaging the tissue.

About 4-6 weeks, kind of a little bit longer

Probably one of the worst piercings to get. I had double hip piercings and they backed out after about 4 months. Surface piercings are really a waste of money because eventually they will back out and leave you with a horrible scar. I am a licensed piercer and have never seen anyone keep a surface piercing in over 3 years before it backed out, and 3 years is pure luck.

it hurts far less than a nose piercing. personally, i'd say at first it feels very much like getting a shot, and then as the piercer pulls the back through, the pain peaks up a bit. But overall, I'd say it's one of the least painful piercings after the ears. it hurts for two to three days at all times, which isn't that bad, but a numbness and aching feeling. It's best cured by midol.

Afterwards, it will only hurt when you open your mouth too wide (that's about a two week - four week healing time there).

Obviously, it hurts more when it's infected.

Well the longer you leave the piercing to heal the better it is. Usually by about two weeks the swelling is down far enough that the jewellery needs to be changed to avoid damaging the gums. So motor back in to see your piercer and have the jewellery changed.
