How many types of high heels are there?

Generally speaking there are five main types of high heel.

1. The Stiletto-the thinnest high heel.

2. The Wedge-a triangular shaped heel where the sole and heel form a solid block.

3. The Block-a chunky, thick heel usually square in shape.

4. The Cone-which resembles un upside down cone shape. Thick and round at the top and tapering down to a thinner shape where it contacts the ground.

5. The Kitten-similar to a stiletto but smaller and easier to wear.

In reality there are many types of high heel as creative designers become more adventurous and fashions change however most are variations of the main types mentioned above, for example The Blade can be considered a variation of the Stiletto.

There are of course many styles of high heel shoes and boots such as pumps, sandals, sling backs, knee boots etc. All of which can incorporate the different types of heels discussed.
