It is possible to bleach or strip hair that has been colored black. Although it can be a long process with often results that aren't desirable. Lifting hair color out (from a level 1 a.k.a. black) has to first pass through all the stages of hair lighting. Depending on how many times the hair has been put through this process, rather the color has been applied root to end on serval occasions and type of color will determine how much you can get out with standard bleaching techniques while still keeping your hair in acceptable condition. Bleaching out such color can cause too much stress to the hair and in some severe cases can case it to break off and take on a new spongy-cotton candy like texture. An alternative method to bleaching, and one I highly recomend, is using a product specifically designed for artificial hair color removal. This type of product strips all artificial color from you strands and can often take several applications depending on the amount of color build-up. The damage factor of this product is very low, and is a much safer alternative to bleaching. Don't be fooled though, this product will not take you back to your natural color, but it can get you back to your natural level. I highly suggest asking your stylist about using a striping method opposed to a bleaching method.
