Should you straighten a child's hair?

With a plug-in hair straightener, there should be no problem straightening your child's hair. Getting it professionally done - a perm - with a professional, means subjecting the child to chemicals and may not be the best idea.

If your child was born with curly hair, I think teaching them that straightening it will make it an improvement, or make them "prettier" like their natural self is not good enough. Kids will have enough insecurities about their looks as they approach their teen years so there is no need to develop them now. Think of it this way, if a child wanted to be blond would you dye their hair? Or would you teach them they looked great with the hair color they were born with?

Kids will grow up all too fast, especially girls and they will be wanting dyed hair, fake nails, and a face full of makeup before you know it. Now is the time to teach them that they have natural beauty and their looks are something unique and special to them.
