Well all piercings that are under a year old will swell when the body is about to catch a cold. This also happens when the body has been subjected to stress, not just physical but mental stress can affect piercings as well.
That means it's infected. Go get it checked by a doctor before it gets worse.
The barbell is a bit too long, but that's due to the swelling. Once the swelling is gone (about 2 weeks) go back and get a shorter barbell, this will relieve the discomfort under your tongue.
yes after 2 weeks for them to put a shorted one in after the swelling has gone down x
Its longer than what you would normally wear in it because it has to allow for swelling. Don't worry about your gag reflex. Tongues arent pierced that far back and the bar wont be nearly long enough to trigger it. Go to a reputable piercer and you wont have any problems! They know what they're doing!
they say wait for atleast 3 weeks, but by then the swelling has decreased alot and it should be okay, so minimum 2 weeks. but alot of people say its bull. so ask the person that's piercing the toungue or if you are worried go back and ask, because they can give the best advice. don't listen to the internet because theres normally aload of crap on the web, so ask a professional before consulting the net :)
Got my Monroe pierced a couple days ago the swelling will go down then come back a few hours later the go back down again, is that normal ?
It depends if it fell out and it's just been a few hours then you can gauge it back open. The middle of the hole seals up because your tongue is a muscle and the muscle goes back to it's original state as soon as the bar is removed from your tongue. If it's been a while then it's safe to get it re-pierced.
You need a longer bar until your tongue swelling recedes. We pierce with a 7/8" bar to minimize this problem.. go back to your piercer immediately. It can cause a severe irritaion if not infection as well. Thanks :] I went down to Evolved on campus today and they put in a 22mm barbell with a big bottom ball so the ball wouldn't go back into my tongue. It's working fairly well so far. The place I got it pierced at here in town used a barbell that was smaller than the barbells people have in their tongue after you have had it pierced for a while.
Well you could be catching a cold, you could be female and your cycle is coming up, you could have strained the piercing and it's annoyed. After two weeks swelling flaring up again is not uncommon. Women will have the tongue piercing (or any new piercing for that matter) swell mildly just before the cycle occurs, this is very common. However male piercers are less apt to tell there female clients about the possibility of this occurring (generally they are shy and kinda skiddish around girls tee hee ).
Plastics are never used for the initial tongue piercing if the service is provided by and experienced professional body piercer. Plastics can be used once the swelling had gone down and the tongue is ready for it's step down barbell (usually about two weeks after the piercing has been done). Plastics cause a false sens of security and people tend to bite and flex the barbell, this alone can prolong the healing period. If you want it done right go with the metal barbell do your aftercare and once the swelling has eased you can go to a plastic barbell, but be warned that should you have issues the metal barbell should be put back in to the piercing.
when you get your tongue piecered it can stay swollen from like 1 week yo 2 weeks if its longer than that i advise you to go back ice will be your bestfreind and also help with the swelling. i got mines periced yesterday been on thice ervy since and it doesnt even bother me .
I have my tongue pierced i got it abut 3 weeks ago, my tongue only hurt well now.. before it was perfectly fine but now it hurts every time i move it.. my friends who have their tongues pierced said it only hurts a lot because I keep playing with it because its still an open wound trying to heal and figure out why you have a whole in it. You will be fine just keep cleaning it a lot for the first month or so with antiseptic mouthwash.
Yes and if you don't keep the swelling down by following the aftercare instructions given to you by your professional body piercer you run a good chance of choking due to the excessive swelling. In all honesty it feels like there is a football in your mouth for about 7 to 10 days, but in the end its definitly worth it.IMPROVED ANSWER- If the swelling doesn't go down, but instead gets worse, what could happen is the tongue will swallow the barbells at the end of the piercing. This could require surgery to fix (don't worry, it's not life threatening). If you notice the swelling does not go down, ask a professional for treatment advice. It is very unlikely you will end up choking on your own tongue.
