It is actually a "cowlick," an unruly spot in your hair that appears as if a cow licked it and no matter what you do, you can't get it to lay down. The hair actually grows in the opposite direction (up) versus the surrounding hair. Often at the crown, but can be anywhere on the scalp. My cousin has one right on the front of her forehead, so she can't wear straight bangs, but worked really well when spiky straight up bangs were popular in the 90s. Now she just wears long bangs, and has a natural lift there, which looks great.
