This is a great question. But when researching the most appropriate jewelry for a piercing, there are more factors to consider than just metal.

First, make sure the jewelry is INTERNALLY THREADED. What that means is that the balls will be the "male end", if you will, and the bar itself will have holes on either side for the jewelry to screw into. What you DO NOT want is a barbell that has rough edges, or threading, on either side. The bar should be smooth from top to bottom. The rough edges will just rip up your piercing, not to mention that externally threaded jewelry (the stuff with a jagged edge on top and bottom) is usually made of inferior metal.

Now, as for metal. "Stainless Steel" does not, in and of itself, mean very much. You need to look for 316LVM steel specifically. This is commonly referred to as "implant grade" steel, and is one of the two metals used by surgeons for medical implants in the body (in example, a hip replacement). The other metal best for this piercing is Titanium.

If you have Allergies to metal, you need only avoid 316LVM Implant Grade steel if you are so sen
