Nail polish chips mostly because of wear and tear. I'm sure science plays a part in how nail polish chips, but not an overly large part.
Light color nail polish does not inherently chip more than dark nail polish. The likelihood of chipping is influenced more by the quality of the polish, how well it is applied, and how well it adheres to the nail surface. Proper nail preparation, application, and top coat can help prevent chipping regardless of the color.
I find almost any brand lasts weeks without chipping when I apply the OPI Nail Envy nail strengthener on top. Its pretty much just a hardener, but with the great quality that comes with the OPI name. Also, after removing or before applying nail polish, rubbing some olive oil on your nails naturally strengthens your nails and gives the polish a nice, even surface.
I always put a coat on before I paint my nails. If you leave nail polish on your nails too long, they will turn yellow. Clear coat usually protects your nails from this. Then, after you paint your nails and they dry, put another coat on to protect your nail polish from chipping and to make it look shinier!
A ridge filler is used to help create a smooth surface on the nail by filling in ridges and indentations. It is applied before nail polish to create an even base for a smoother and more polished finish. Ridge fillers can also help with nail polish longevity and prevent chipping.
If you want to find really good quality nail polish that doesn't chip, i recommend OPI there nail polishes are really high quality, the only thing is that OPI nail polishes are quite expensive and have quiet thick brushes which personally, i like but if you have thin nails it can be difficult. these are the best quality nail polish brands OPI Jessie s girl China Glaze BYS Revlon Chi Chi

Chlorine, because it is a chemical, can fade or chip finger and toe nail polish. To lessen the chance of your nail polish chipping, make sure to apply a clear topcoat before and after you paint your nails. And, once you get out of the pool, dry off your nails with a towel to keep the chlorine from sinking in. Hope this helps!
