Yes, mine was done a week ago and it sweels up every now and then when it is aggervated. Its totally normal.

What do you do if your cartilage piercing randomly starts hurting?
Firstly, you need to figure out why it is hurting, so have a look at it in a mirror. If it is swollen as well as hurting: if it is swollen it could be infected, so it is very important that you don't take the jewellery out as it could heal up and leave the infection trapped in your skin. What you should do is clean it with a mild salt water solution, if it doesn't improve after a week of doing this, go to your doctor for antibiotics and to get the jewellery removed safely. If it is not swollen: if your cartilage piercing is hurting but isn't swollen, it could just be that you've slept on it funny, that your bar is too tight, or it could just be very slightly swollen and sore. If there isn't obvious swelling and the pain has come on suddenly it usually helps to just take the jewellery out for as long as you can then put it back in (only if it's healed though! If it isn't healed just loosen the bar if possible and clean the piercing)

If the piercing is 24 hours old it will close quite quickly (generally a few days to knit up), the longer the piercing has been kept with the jewellery in it the longer it will take to heal up. So if you don't like the piercing, get the jewellery out fairly quick and you should be good in a few days.

This is all up to you really, i waited 3 days lol, as the first few days it got in the way. if your going to do it, just make sure you clean it Yea its really just up to you. I got a new one about 4 days ago and it its doing fine. However she likes to bite and play with my piercing so will just take a bit longer to heal is all. How long a piercing takes to close up depends on the gauge of the piercing but mostly it depends on the individual. All I can give you is anecdotal evidence; I removed my 14g lip piercing which was 18 months old and was unable to re-open the hole without re-piercing just two days later. If you want to keep the piercing open but need it to go unnoticed (say, for a job interview or a particular event) consider using a piercing retainer, these are clear plastic bars which are almost invisible when worn.
Swollen nose piercing?
Well with new piercing this can sometimes be related to the aftercare products you are using. Lot's of new studios are pushing Dragon Mist and other woo woo magic aftercare sprays and lotions, most of these products end up reacting in anegative manner with the client's skin. I would suggest just rinsing the piercing under running water in the shower for a couple of days and leave the aftercare stuff out of the equation and see how your nose feels from there. Now if we are talking about a nostril piercing done with a piercing gun well that's another matter all together. Piercing guns are never to be used for anything other than ear lobe piercing, the stud is not designed nor intended to be used in a nostril. See you local professional body piercer to get a proper nostril screw put into the piercing, that should help the swelling issue.
Can you take out your lip piercing after 3 or 4 days?
If you are wanting the piercing to close, then yes. Four days is just a tad bit too soon to take the jewelry out, and the fistula will close up within a matter of a few hours. Best to wait about a month after having it done to change the jewelry out for the smoothest results.

One gauge once every 30 days no faster then you wouldn't have the discomfort you have now, you are rushing the stretch and in doing so tearing the tissue. You need to slow down and do it properly or you will wind up with some really messed up piercing that will never return to normal.
