because the tonsills swell, it blocks the throat which makes your breathing more hoarse, which effects the lungs because they cannot let out all the air they want to.

If it is bad enough, the tonsils will swell and the throat will become inflamed. Sometimes the swelling and inflammation can be enough to cause some obstruction in the airway.
