The part of the cell that produces energy varies between plants and animals. In plants, the energy producing part of the cell occurs in the chloroplast of the plant. In animals, the mitochondria produces the cells energy.
Cells can store the sugar produced in photosynthesis by ATP 1) be broken down by the mitochondria to supply energy to the cell. 2) be linked together in long chains to form cellulose and build the plant cell wall. 3) be moved to another part of the plant for energy, or moved to the root system for storage (in the form of starch).
The organelle that makes the cell energy is called the michondria (singular is mitochondrion). In a process called respiration, the mitochondria uses the food consumed to convert into cell energy. It requires oxygen to convert food into energy, and the product is cell energy, of course, and the waste products are water and carbon dioxide gas. This is just for the animal cells. For plant cells, this works in the same way, but the step before is more complicated. There is a cell part called the chloroplast only existing in a plant cell. It captures light energy from the sun, and uses water and carbon dioxide to make sugar called glucose. The glucose is basically the stored energy. This process is called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is actually opposite of respiration since photosynthesis is saving energy, and respiration is using the energy. This is just like a bank account.
