No, they can't root using the water method. You can do it with other methods though.

Clip about a 3" cutting from the main plant.

Use sharp sheers to make sure it is a clean cut.

Strip any lower leaves from the cutting.

Dust the bottom end with rooting hormone.

Plant the piece about 1/3 deep in a small pot with a succulent potting mix.

Press the potting mix against the stem to hold it in place.

Secure a plastic bag around the plant, and use wooden skewers to keep the plastic off of the plant.

Mist the plant with water and recover each day.

Do this for about 3 to 4 weeks until roots form.
