no. the sprout from a tree comes from the trees roots, which have already been chopped off in this case. however, if there are still any healthy, small branches, you can cut them with a sharp pair of pruners at an angle and stick them in a jar or vase of water. keep the vase full of water and fresh and pretty soon, roots will emerge! after a couple months the roots will be long enough for you to plant the new shoots in a safe place outside. make sure they always have plenty of water! If the shoots you trimmed dont make roots after you put them in a vase, they were probably already too old.
This is in addition to the answer above. Actually our Christmas tree is doing exactly that. I have never seen this before. We got it about a month ago (it's Jan 3rd today). It's been watered well & sits by 2 large windows during the day & has bright lamps inside near it at night. It's still drinking a lot of water - 2 wine bottles of water/day (the bottles are easy to get under & pour into tree stand without spilling). A week ago I first noticed what looked like tiny pine cones appearing all of the tree, mostly in clusters of 3 or more at the end of branches. Now these are all opening up with fresh light green new sprouts!! I'm going to cut several branches before we put the tree on the curb & put in water. I almost hate to even put it on the curb tho!! Oh and it's a Balsam. I'm pretty amazed!!
I have seen a lot of cut Christmas trees and have never seen one sprout new growth.
My dads a Christmas tree farmer and yes it is possible that one could put off new growth if it had enough water and the right growing conditions, but it is probably rare that it could happen
No. This tree will not survive.
All trees lose sap though needles or leaves. If it has been cut there is no supply from the roots so death is inevitable.
I believe street trees are planted after old tree are cut down because, the old trees have outgrown their spot or are likely to collapse or uproot a street , sidewalk ,or structure so, the old trees are cut down and new trees are planted for beautification purposes.
cut the trees, then u can stop the losing of leaves from the tree or cut the stem of the trees....
Balsam Fir trees are beautiful Christmas trees; they have open branching making them perfect for ornament placement and creating depth in the display; trunk to tip of branch. However they dry out quickly and do not recover well from a missed watering. They can be a fire hazard. Plan on checking the water twice a day and then still have it poop out before Christmas. My best guess is 8 to 10 days. It depends on when the tree was cut by the seller, and if you make a fresh cut. All that and it still goes fast into a light green brown.
